Use Odoo from Codex

MCP Server for Odoo lets an AI client read your Odoo through an explicit list of models you choose. Codex CLI connects to it today. The Codex plugin below adds three ready-made read-only skills. The add-on is required; the plugin is free.

Set up

  1. Install the add-on on your Odoo (19.0 or 20.0), create a profile listing the models Codex may reach, and create an API key with the odoo.mcp scope.
  2. Add the plugin marketplace in Codex:
    codex plugin marketplace add Mithahara/odoo-codex-plugin
  3. Point Codex at your Odoo in ~/.codex/config.toml. The plugin cannot carry your URL, so this step is yours:
    [mcp_servers.odoo]
    url = "https://YOUR-ODOO-HOST/mcp"
    bearer_token_env_var = "ODOO_MCP_KEY"
  4. Export the key before starting Codex:
    export ODOO_MCP_KEY=your-odoo-mcp-api-key

The skills

  • find-overdue-invoices: posted customer invoices past their due date, with customer, amount due and days overdue.
  • who-can-see-model: which groups can read, write, create or delete a model, and which record rules narrow that.
  • record-history: what changed on a record, from its chatter and tracked fields.

All three only read. Each works only on the models your profile allows, and says so when a model is not offered. They do not audit your security; they report what the rules say.

What has and has not been tested

Codex CLI 0.155 connected to the add-on and read real records. The Codex desktop app has not been tested. The add-on authenticates with an Odoo API key, not OAuth, so clients that require an OAuth sign-in cannot use it.
