Journal Access Report

See exactly who can post to each of your accounting journals

The video below shows Journal Access Report running on a real Odoo 19 database. Want it driven against your own data, or a question answered first? Ask and we will set up a session.

Odoo Community has no per-journal restriction. Anyone with accounting access reaches every journal of their companies - the main bank account, the payroll journal, all of them. There is no field for it and no setting to change, which means most people have never actually looked at who that is.

This tells you. Run the report and every journal is listed with the users who can currently post to it, so the answer is a list rather than an assumption.

Every user reaching every journal, bank account included - which is the default, and rarely what anyone intends.

What it does

Counts inherited access too

Membership is read through the group hierarchy, not by listing group members. A user who only holds a group that implies accounting access still reaches the journals - and a report that missed them would understate the very thing it exists to show.

Reports, never restricts

This app adds no allow-list, no record rule and no group. It cannot narrow access even by accident - a test asserts the module ships no record rules and touches no group.

And then what

If the answer this gives you is uncomfortable, narrowing it is a change to how the system behaves and belongs with the app that also has to enforce it.

What it does not do

Stated up front so nothing about the scope is a surprise after you install it.
